Photographic manipulation may seem like a somewhat modern technique however photographers have in fact been retouching their photos long before the introduction of Photoshop and similar retouching software.
In fact back in the day making such adjustments required a lot more than a just a computer and some software but you needed a whole box full of tools and a one very, VERY steady hand.
